After an employment gap of 10 years in my main field, do I mention more recent unrelated jobs?

by Cindy
(Lake Wales, FL United States)

I have an employment gap for the last 10 years, following 20-30 yrs retail and business management experience with lots of successes. Do I emphasize the more recent entry level cashier jobs or all my accomplishments and successes as a manager?

I know I'll probably have to start ground floor and work my way back up.

Answer: This is where a combination format for a resume comes in handy. Using it, you can emphasize your skills and experience, while de-emphasizing recent work history. However, DO explain the 10-year gap in your cover letter or be prepared to discuss at an interview.
