If you cannot find a job right away, perhaps one of these work at home ideas will tide you over...
Sometimes, you won't find a job right away, no matter how great your resume and cover letter are or how well you perform in interviews. There are many reasons... the job is filled from within, budget cuts, etc.
From what I'm hearing, many people are having tons of trouble finding a job these days. And even more are having financial difficulties and may want to find some supplemental ways of bringing in income. Sound familiar?
So what are you to do to make ends meet during the interim? Or, what if you decide self-employment is the way to go... at least for now?
Well, perhaps you'll want to consider one of the ideas found in this section of the site...
I thought it might be helpful if I started you off with some work at home ideas I've looked into over the years. Some of them I've even used successfully...
Some people choose to start a freelance career or become consultants of some kind. Thousands of people who have been downsized, right-sized, or subject to some other corporate trend have started their own independent consultant careers.
That's what I did a few years ago when I used my experience as a nurse and my love for writing to became a freelance health education writer for About.com and HealthCentral.com! (And later I used my online business experience to become a web-business consultant.) Read more about how to start a freelance career here
Some people explore home-based offline businesses. This move can be risky if you don't know what you're doing. There are lots of scams out there, so buyer beware.
But some work at home ideas along this line that you could think about might include starting some type of service business, like an office cleaning service, medical billing data entry, massage therapy, network marketing, etc.
There are so many ways to go with this, it's hard to list them all. But if you decide to go this direction, do your research and be careful about investing large sums of money.
More and more people today are starting their own web-based, or online, home businesses. I think this is a great way to supplement your income... and maybe even replace it completely down the road! You can read about how a program called SBI worked for me to get an idea of the possibilities in a home-based web business.
The kind of online home business I started was building content-based websites (like this one). The idea is to build a site around a topic you have an interest in or are knowledgeable about and then "monetize" it by selling advertising space on the pages or by selling related products (either your own or other people's). I've used all those methods and they all work.
There are other types of online home businesses too, including auction selling (like eBay), blogging for profit, affiliate marketing and more. Again, though, beware of people who tell you can make money easily, with very little work. Sure, it happens that way for a few lucky people, but most of us have to put in the time and effort to start making a profit... just like you do with an offline business.
Working from home in your own business is a dream for so many people, and many of us have actually managed to make that come true. Many of us have found it to be so much fun and so lucrative that we've even been able to give up our traditional jobs. Is that your dream too?
Or maybe you're just looking for a way to make some money while you look for a "real" job... or you want to be able to supplement your regular salary to make bill-paying a bit easier or to help save for that fabulous vacation... or car... or whatever.
The bottom line is that there are scores of work at home ideas to pursue, if you're so inclined. Just use your head rather than your heart, OK?
And, if the job search isn't going well, remember... There are always a few work at home ideas worth exploring!
