Hi there! My name is Kathi MacNaughton, and, thanks for stopping by. Are you wondering if you can trust the information on this site and if there is a real live person behind all the words and pictures? I mean, how can you be sure anything you read here is on the mark, right?
Well, let me reassure you... I'm NOT just some hack, trying to make a buck on the Internet by posting links or ads to various resume services and career products in an effort to rip you off. I am a seasoned business manager who has years of "in the trenches" experience with interviewing and hiring applicants for all types of jobs.
When I first decided to go into business for myself back in the early 2000s, I knew that I wanted to do something with resume writing or resume writing education, because it was a topic near and dear to my heart and that I already knew a lot about... from both sides of the interview table.
I thought about setting up my own resume writing service... but I'm not much of a saleswoman, nor do I have a large network of friends and acquaintances – especially since I've done quite a bit of moving around the past decade, so I wasn't really sure how I'd find clients.
But I did love the Internet and I love to write, so when I discovered a course and service that helped me learn how to start my own website business, I was on my way to creating this informational site... and the rest, as I like to say, is "history!"
I am a registered nurse by education and background. And I spent quite a few years in the hospital and home care setting taking care of patients. But I also spent 17 years in health care management. One of my main duties for many years was recruitment of both professional and support staff. During that time, I reviewed literally thousands of resumes and cover letters and interviewed several hundreds of hopeful applicants.
And believe me, I could tell you some crazy, and often unbelievable, stories...
But this is not the time nor place for those stories. Suffice it to say, I have the knowledge and skills necessary to advise you on how to prepare the very best resume that will help you get the jobs you want. And I keep up with the latest trends in resumes, cover letters, job interviews, career planning, etc. so that I can be sure to keep giving you the best information on the Web.
After many years in health care and administration, I realized I needed new challenges, so I changed careers and became a writer. I'd always loved to write and I'd had to do a lot of writing as part of my management jobs. So, I parlayed that experience and a love of computers into a technical writing and support job for a company that made clinical charting software.
After a few years exploring the technical writing field, I knew it wasn't the best fit for me, so I moved on to writing consumer health educational materials for various pharmaceutical companies, as well as some freelance clients. That was a lot better fit for me and if the company I worked for had not started having financial difficulties, I might still be doing it.
In fact, I continued to do it even after I left the first company... as a freelancer for a number of pharmaceutical communication firms.
Today, I make my living in my ultimate dream career as a freelance entrepreneur, writing, and consulting with other people who want to build a web-based home business.
After this site became such a success, I was inspired to build a number of other content websites on a wide variety of topics. I have a site on my passion, motor scooters, another to share my quick, healthy dinner recipes, one on the area I live in (Boise, Idaho) and one on my favorite vacation spot. Actually, I love building websites so much, I keep thinking of new ideas all the time!
Although I am no longer working in recruitment, I have kept up my body of knowledge and expertise regarding resumes, cover letters, and interviewing techniques, partly so that I could assist several members of my family who are either changing careers or entering the professional workforce for the first time. It seems like someone is always asking for my help with their resume or cover letter... And that's why they call me "The Resume Expert!"
I created this site to help people like you find the jobs they've been wanting. So, if you don't find what you need, then please let me know, OK?
I will do my level best to help you!
