How do I explain to a potential employer (and on my resume) about a large gap in employment

by Patty
(Huntsville, AL, USA)

I have had a very hard time trying to find a job. I have actively looked for employment for over a year and a half. I have had very few actual interviews. How do I put that answer on my resume or cover letter? Also, how would I answer a potential employer? Thank you.

Answer: Unfortunately for job seekers, I don't think you situation is all that unusual. So I'd explain it honestly and openly. I don't think it will reflect badly on you. Truth is, there are not enough jobs for all the people that need them these days.
