Buena, thanks for submitting this question. It has an easy answer. Employment gaps are best handled in the cover letter. The resume only shows what you DID do, not what you didn't do.

Employment gaps due to a poor job market are probably pretty routine things for recruiters to see these days, given the economy.

So, in your cover letter, you would simply state something like, "I have been unemployed for the past 6 months, as there are very few jobs available in my industry in this area."
