How do I answer a question about marital status?

by Sardar
(Hydereabad)

If an interviewer asks me a question about my marital status, I'm wondering what the best way to answer it would be. Can you offer any suggestions?

Answer: Sardar, this seems a strange job interview question to me, but I don't see any reason not to be completely truthful. So, just answer honestly and see what happens.

If you are married, say so; if not, say that too. You really shouldn't have to answer such personal questions in the course of an interview, but I am speaking mainly from knowledge of United States' employment laws. Things may work differently in your part of the world.
