Can a free resume builder like Total Resume produce the goods?
Continuing in our line of objective reviews of no cost resume builders, we took a look at TotalResume.com, where you can follow their step-by-step system to build both a resume and a cover letter.
Their system is quite robust, with a powerful try before you buy feature. Basically, you can develop your entire resume before you decide if the service is worth paying for. If you don't like, it, that's it. You owe nothing, but your resume will be deleted from their database within a couple of weeks. If you do like it, you pay their reasonable fee and get all sorts of additional features.
I found Total Resume to be very easy to use. They offer all sorts of help as you go along, from action words to suggested phrasing for each section of your resume. They'll even post your resume either publicly on the web or in a separate database for employers. I also liked that you could preview your resume as you were building it.

Cons:
Bottom Line:
If you need help putting together your resume but can't afford to spend anything, you could build the resume using their no frills, but very robust, helpful free resume builder system. Then, print or cut and paste the preview. However, I recommend you pay for the service. It's only $19 at this writing for a full year membership in their site. Not only will you be able to build (and edit) unlimited resumes, they throw in a cover letter AND submit them to employers for you.
For an almost free resume builder service, it's hard to find a better product.
However, there is another option, which you might want to check out... Pongo Resume's online resume builder, which costs a bit more (just under $10/month), but offers even more. Hope you enjoyed this Total Resume review!
