What's the best way to list my volunteer experience?

by Jennifer
(Somewhere)

I am looking to get into a policing job and have a lot of volunteer experience. I am wondering if I should just list events that I was a part of or explain my role at these event as I would in my employment history? If I do the latter my resume would be over 3 pages long. If the former, I don't know how to make it look more professional.

Answer: Jennifer, I would definitely include the volunteer experience, but if it is too long, then you might consider just having a volunteer category under work history and then list some bulleted accomplishments as a volunteer, pulling out the highlights, not every single task you did. Also, list the various events/companies you volunteered for.

Hope that helps... Kathi
