The Company I Worked for Changed Hands/Names... How Do I Handle This on My Resume?

by Anonymous
(Somewhere)

I worked in the same position for 8 years, but the company was sold after 4 years, taking on a different name. Even though the position was the same, do I need to indicate that it was with 2 different companies?

ANSWER: Hi there... I've dealt with this situation too. I'd list the company's current name on your resume, because that's the one they will be contacting after a job offer to get references, verify employment, etc.

Then, in the cover letter, I'd mention that the company was bought out and changed names during your tenure there.

To your success,

Kathi

Company Name Change
by: Michael

I went through the same situation about a year ago. I agree, just list the current name of your employer on the resume.

I did not mention the company change in my cover letter, though. I figured I would mention it in the interview if it came up.

By the way, since then I applied for and received another job. The question never came up, so I didn't mention it.
