Should I Include Letters of Reference With My Resume?

by Pam
(Knoxville, TN)

When my previous employer closed due to a "hostile" purchase, the administrator, supervisor and medical director provided personal letters of reference in individual packets. As I prepare resumes to send, is it acceptable to copy these and include them in the packet?

ANSWER: Pam, the answer to your question about whether it is appropriate to include letters of reference with a resume is yes. I'd also mention their inclusion in your cover letter.

In addition, I'd bring them with you to any interviews, just in case the originals go missing.

Good luck!
