Should I abbreviate the word County in the name of a company name?

by Mary
(Winston-Salem, NC)

I am in the middle of rewriting my resume. One of the company names is so long, it is causing the city to be moved to the next line. I was wondering if it would be okay to abbreviate the word County to Co. to make everything fit onto one line? Or would it be okay for the city to be on the following line.

Thank you,
Mary

ANSWER: Funny you should ask this, Mary! I was just reading an article over the weekend that said it's OK to use abbreviations these days in a resume, as most employers are scanning quickly for info, and as long as it's an abbreviation that's widely understood, it makes the scanning quicker. So, go for it!

And good luck with your job search!
