Just Starting Out

by Dimitri
(Brooklyn, New York)

I am 21 yrs old and am currently employed as a bank teller at my first "professional job". I am currently attending college in the evenings and would like to apply for a personal banker position with another bank.

I would like to know how I can create an interesting and compelling resume even though I do not have enough related work experience. I am highly motivated and competent and learn quickly. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thank you.

Answer: In your resume, emphasize your skills and accomplishments more than your work history. The cover letter is another great place to "sell" your potential value to an employer. Think about transferable skills like customer service, ability to meet sales goals (I know personal bankers have them!), attention to detail, etc. Good luck!
