Every Work Experience Is Worth Something
by: Kathi

Hi Priscila,

You're making the same mistake a lot of stay at home moms do, and that's to discount the value of the very real work you are doing as a child caregiver.

I don't think it's as important what you call the position (though either nanny or child caregiver is appropriate) as the value you put on the skills you possess.

When you take skills from a job to use them on a completely different job, this is called "transferable skills". Transferable skills are those things that will be useful on many different types of jobs. Good examples are people skills, communication skills, organizational skills, ability to master new skills quickly and so forth.

So, list your child care job just like any other job on your resume and list the many actionable responsibilities you have. Be proud of the work you've done for this family!

To your success,
Kathi
