How Do I Respond to the Question, Why Are You the Best?

by Adewale Sola
(Lagos, Nigeria)

If an employer asks me why I am the best for the post of sales analyst, how do I answer?

ANSWER: Hi Adewale... Great question! All too often, we are embarrassed or self-conscious about singing our own praises, but when an employer asks what makes you great, they are giving you the opportunity to brag about yourself a little.

Now, I'm not saying to lie or make yourself sound better than you are, but during the hiring process, you DO need to get a clear idea of the value you would bring to an employer and then to be able to put that into words.

So, talk about your strengths and skills. Say something like, "I really can't compare myself to your other candidates, as I know nothing about them. But I CAN tell you..." Then go on to identify what makes you a great candidate. Often, when you believe in yourself, others can't help but go along with you!

To your success,
Kathi
