How do I put on my resume that I was laid off and went back to college?

by Anna Martin
(Charlotte, NC, USA)

I was laid off my job 2 years ago, and in the meantime, I went back to college. How do I put this on a resume?

Answer: Anna, I feel as though I must be missing something here. Why would you not just put down exactly what you say here? In job history, you'd put your last job, with dates of employment. Under Education, you'd put your college.

In your cover letter, you may want to mention why you decided to go back to college in lieu of getting a new job, or you may just want to see if they ask during the interview. Either way, honesty is the best policy!
