How Do I List the Same Job, But My Company Was Bought Out?

by Anonymous
(Somewhere)

I've been in the same job, working on the same product for twenty years. My first company was bought out by a larger second company which was then bought by an even larger third company. How do I handle this on my resume?

Thanks!

ANSWER: I think I'd probably put the current company name in your resume and then mention the progression of buyouts in your cover letter. For instance, "I was originally hired by ABC Co, who was later bought out by DEF Co and then again by GHI Co."

Alternatively, you could list the companies like this in your resume:

ABC Co, Anytown, NY 5/1988 to 5/1998
DEF Co, Anytown, NY 5/1998 to 5/2004
GHI Co, Anytown, NY 5/2004 to Present
(NOTE: Same job continued through 2 company mergers)

To your success,
Kathi
