How do I list several ups and downs within the same company?

by Anonymous
(Somewhere)

I've worked for the same company for 32 years. Started on the shop floor, transferred to a salary position, promoted to supervisor, then manager of up to 63 people.

Cyclic industry with contractions every few years, so I was promoted/demoted in management several times as head count fluctuated. I'm back on the shop floor now running equipment being phased out and then I'm out the door, I guess.

If I list chronological order, my career will look like a yoyo which is really not unusual with this company. Do you have any advice? Thanks.

Answer: You're right... a traditional chronological resume is probably not your best bet in this case. I'd recommend using either a functional/skills resume or a combination/hybrid resume format. Follow the links to read more about each of these formats and to get samples.

Good luck!
