How Do I List Overlapping Jobs on a Resume?

by Betsy Cook
(Jacksonville, Florida)

I have had 3 jobs. One job in 2008. Another job in 2007. I have had had another job from 2004-present. Do I list the 2004-present job at the top or bottom of work experience?

Sorry, But You're Wrong...
by: Kathi

Actually, the answer I gave to the original questioner DID make sense, for her situation. You're presenting a different situation.

In your case, I'm not sure it matters, as all of the jobs you mention are relatively recent. If all jobs are in the past at this point, then I'd just pick a way to list them (either by when started or by when ended) and be consistent in doing it that way all the time throughout your resume.

And then you might want to mention in your cover letter that you frequently hold several jobs that overlap for certain periods of time. Hope you find this more helpful, but if not, feel free to post back here again and I'll take another stab at it! :)

That answer makes no sense

The answer given doesn't help at all. I have 2-3 jobs most years. For example, I have 2 jobs that started in 2008. One started Feb 08 and ended Jan 10, the other started Mar 08 and ended Dec 09. Which is the "older" job, the one started first, or the one that ended first?

List Your Present Job First Always
by: Kathi

Hi Betsy,

Always list your current job at the top of your work history on your resume, no matter when it started. After that, list each job in reverse chronological order, so for your example, the current job, then the 2008 job, then the 2007 job, and so on.
