Unfortunately, I think your situation is probably not all that unique given the current state of our economy and the job market. The best way to explain employment gaps at first is always in the cover letter. Just be open and transparent about why you lost your job and why you are still employed. I wouldn't go into too much detail; save that for the interview if asked. This is NOT a reflection on you; it's just what's going on in our world right now. So, just keep plugging away at it... the right job will come along sooner or later. To your success, Kathi
