Does a functional resume format work?

by AJ
(Orlando, FL)

I've read in a few different websites that a functional resume format is often loathed by employers... is this true?

ANSWER: This is a great question, AJ, and the answer is not black & white. I talk about this in more detail on my functional resume format page. But you're right, while it is a great way to de-emphasize work history while highlighting skills, employers can also be suspicious that you are trying to hide something.

That's why a lot of experts recommend a hybrid or combination resume approach instead. This format takes the best of the chronological and the functional formats and combines them. It is also an acceptable format for most employers.

Good luck,
Kathi
