Comments for Debra Duncan's Resume #1 - Critique Request
You have discovered the secret. Having a powerful resume that sells you is important. But it is the cover letter that usually will get the resume looked at in the first place. If you send a generic cover letter, you'll lose recruiters before they ever see all your great qualifications on the resume.
Take a look at my cover letter pages on this site for more information. You have to hook them with your words, highlight your best qualities and show that you know something about their organization.
Good luck with your job search,
Kathi

Debra's FU by: Debra
Thanks Kathi. I could use the boost today. It seems I am sending out a lot of resumes without a lot of response. In the past, 1 out of 10 has gotten me an interview. I haven't been customizing cover letters and am going to start doing that to see if that makes a difference. In other words, I am going to cut and paste the job qualifications and respond to each point.
Thanks again, Debra

Great Resume - Very Powerful by: Kathi
Debra,
I love this resume in many respects. You've done a great job at quantifying your many achievements. The resume does a wonderful job of selling you. Heck, I want to hire you... and I'm a one-woman shop!
The one thing I don't like is the long list of "Areas of Expertise". I don't think it adds anything to the resume, and in fact, makes you tired of reading before you get to the "good stuff." I think most of those skills are evident from your accomplishments anyway. Better to start with the strong power statement that follows the list. I'd put a subheading on that power statement by the way.
Good job!
Of your 2 options, this is my favorite. I like how it details all the important stuff about you and then just lists the jobs where that stuff was done afterward. Nice touch including the 1-line summary of each employer.
